CE, ISO 9001, SGS, Soncap: Roofing Certifications Explained for Importers

Published: 2026-06-01 | By Fuda Roofing Team

When importing roofing materials from China, certifications are your strongest assurance of quality. But with so many acronyms —CE, ISO 9001, SGS, Soncap —it's easy to get confused. Here's what each one actually means and why they matter for your project.

CE Marking: Your Passport to Europe

CE (Conformit茅 Europ茅enne) is mandatory for construction products sold in the European Economic Area. For stone coated metal roof tiles, CE certification under EN 14782 confirms the product meets EU standards for mechanical resistance, fire performance (EN 13501-5), and durability. Without CE marking, your shipment won't clear EU customs. Every Fuda product ships with a Declaration of Performance (DoP) document —ask for it.

ISO 9001: Quality Management You Can Trust

ISO 9001:2015 isn't a product certificate —it certifies the manufacturing process. A factory with ISO 9001 has documented quality control at every stage: incoming raw material inspection, in-process checks, final product testing, and continuous improvement systems. For importers, this means consistent quality batch after batch. Fuda's ISO 9001 certification is audited annually by an accredited third party.

SGS: Independent Third-Party Testing

SGS is the world's leading inspection and testing company. An SGS test report means an independent lab —not the factory —has verified the product's specifications. Common SGS tests for roofing include: coating thickness (鈮?0渭m AZ150), tensile strength (鈮?00 MPa), salt spray resistance (1,000+ hours), and fire rating (Class A). Always ask for the full SGS report, not just the cover page. Fuda provides current SGS reports for all tile profiles upon request.

Soncap: Mandatory for Nigeria

Soncap (Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme) is required for regulated products entering Nigeria. Without a valid Soncap certificate, your goods will be rejected at Nigerian ports. The process involves product testing, factory audit, and registration. Fuda holds an active Soncap certificate —if you're importing to Nigeria, mention this early so we include the certificate in your shipping documents.
